Groups with Branches#

Most elective groups are simple lists of courses from which a student can choose.

Some requirements are more complicated. The available choices may depend on a course that the student has already selected.

FlightPath supports these situations through group branches.

When to Use Branches#

For example, suppose a Humanities requirement allows either:

1 ENGL course and 2 HIST courses, or
2 ENGL courses and 1 HIST course.

A simple list of English and History courses cannot express this relationship.

Group Definitions#

A group definition provides a way to build a large list of courses without entering every course manually.

Instead of typing hundreds of courses into the Required Courses field, you can use commands that add or remove courses based on their subject and course number.

Opening the Definition Editor#

Create or edit an elective group.

Select Edit Definition to open the definition editor.

The definition uses commands in the following format:

Course Prerequisites#

FlightPath can manage course prerequisites through the Prereqs module, which will automatically add a Prerequisites section to the bottom of the course edit form.

The Prereqs module is included by default in FlightPath 6 and later. If it is not available in your installation, contact your FlightPath administrator.

Simple Prerequisites#

A prerequisite means that a student must complete one course before they can be advised to take another course.
