Overview of Degrees, Courses, and Groups#

FlightPath’s degrees are composed of “Semester Blocks” which contain both Courses and Groups. And the Groups themselves are composed of Courses like so:

Managing Courses#

Courses are maintained separately for each catalog year. When you create or edit a course, you are generally working with the version of that course that belongs to a particular catalog year.

Opening the Course List#

From the Admin Console, locate the Data Entry section near the bottom of the page.

Select Courses for [catalog year] to open the course list for that catalog year.

Managing Elective Groups#

An elective group (also just called groups) is a collection of courses that can satisfy a particular requirement in a degree plan.

For example, a degree might require a student to complete two courses from a group called Humanities Electives. The group contains the courses that are eligible to satisfy that requirement.

Groups can be simple lists of courses or can use more advanced features such as definitions and branches.

Managing Degree Plans#

Degree plans define the requirements a student must complete to earn a degree, minor, concentration, track, or other academic program represented in FlightPath.

A degree plan is composed of individual courses and groups, organized into semester blocks.

Opening the Degree Plans List#

From the Admin Console, locate the Data Entry section near the bottom of the page.

Select Degree Plans for [catalog year].

The resulting page displays the degree plans available for that catalog year.

Applying Draft Changes

Applying Draft Changes#

FlightPath uses a draft-data system for degree, course, and group changes.

This allows authorized users to make changes without immediately changing the data being used by students and advisors.

Draft vs. Live Data#

When you create or edit:

Courses
Elective groups
Degree plans

the changes are initially saved as draft data.

The changes do not become active for students and advisors until the draft data is applied.
