System Settings#

FlightPath has global system settings that affect the operation and appearance of the system.

Access these settings from the Admin Console → System settings.

Note: The settings available in your FlightPath installation may vary depending on your version and the modules that are enabled. You may see additional settings or different fields.

Login and System Access#

SettingDescription
Set maintenance mode?Displays a maintenance message on every page when enabled. This is useful while performing actions that might interfere with normal FlightPath operation.
Disable all new logins (except admin user)?Prevents all users except admin from logging in.
Disable all new student logins?Prevents students from logging in while allowing faculty and staff to continue logging in.
Only allow certain users to log in (allow list)Overrides the preceding login restrictions and specifies exactly which users are allowed to log in. This can be useful when limiting access to a small group of test users.
Enable multi-factor authenticationEnables multi-factor authentication for local users. Users who do not use SSO or LDAP are sent a validation code before they can log in.

System Identity and Appearance#

SettingDescription
System NameChanges the name displayed to users. FlightPath can be renamed to another name, although some admin-only areas may continue to refer to FlightPath.
System timezoneSets the default timezone used by FlightPath. Set this to the timezone of your primary campus. Individual users can still choose their own timezones.
Default tab to view when loading a new studentControls which student screen opens by default when an advisor or other user selects a student. Users can override this setting with their own preference.
Clean URLsControls whether FlightPath uses clean URLs such as /admin/tools instead of URLs containing index.php?q=. Clean URLs are recommended when supported by the server.
ThemeSelects the FlightPath theme. Additional themes can be added under /custom/themes.
External/Additional CSS file(s)Specifies additional CSS files to load. Multiple files can be separated by commas, and full external URLs can be used.
Logo image URLChanges the default FlightPath banner/logo image.

File Uploads and Notifications#

SettingDescription
Allowed file extensions for public file uploadsSpecifies file extensions that users with appropriate permissions may upload through Admin Tools → Content. These files are not encrypted and are visible to users who are not logged in.
Contact email addressThe address that receives messages sent through the Contact FlightPath Production Team link in the footer.
Notify apply draft changes email addressSpecifies one or more addresses to notify when someone applies draft degree-data changes.
Notify MySQL error email addressSpecifies the address that receives details when a MySQL error occurs.
Notify PHP error email addressSpecifies the address that receives details about PHP warnings and errors.
Admin Apply Draft passwordThe password required when applying draft changes.

Logging#

SettingDescription
Max watchdog (log) entry ageControls how long normal watchdog log entries are retained. A higher value is recommended when sufficient database storage is available.
Max watchdog (log) DEBUG entry ageControls how long DEBUG log entries are retained. These entries are primarily useful for troubleshooting and generally do not need to be retained for years.
Max watchdog (log) ERROR entry ageControls how long ERROR log entries are retained.

Degree Settings#

SettingDescription
Default ‘Allow Dynamic’ value for new degreesSets the default value for the Allow Dynamic property on newly created degrees. A value of 1 allows a degree to be combined with other degrees, such as in a double major, minor, or concentration.
Degree Classifications - Level 1Defines the classifications available for Level-1 degrees.
Degree Classifications - Level 2Defines the classifications available for Level-2 degrees.
Degree Classifications - Level 3Defines the classifications available for Level-3 degrees.
Enable legacy concentrations?Enables the older FlightPath method for handling concentrations. For new installations, this should normally remain disabled.

Student Login and Rank Settings#

SettingDescription
Allowed student ranks (CSV)Lists the student rank codes that are allowed to log into FlightPath, such as FR, SO, JR, SR, GR.
Rank descriptionsProvides display descriptions for rank codes. For example: FR ~ Freshman.
Not allowed student messageThe message displayed when a student attempts to log in but does not have an allowed rank.
Enter the ‘Need Help Logging In?’ Content ID numberSpecifies the Content ID of the page displayed when a user selects the Need help logging in? link on the default login page. A value of zero displays a default message. This may not be needed when using Single Sign-On.
Log out messageDisplays a custom message when a user logs out. This is not visible when using a Single-Log Out service with SSO.

Notifications and Data Retention#

SettingDescription
How often should we recalculate the alert “bell” count?Controls how frequently FlightPath checks for alert notifications. The bell is currently checked when a page loads. A shorter interval can be useful when users frequently receive alerts.
Permanently delete the following from the database once it has been flagged for deletionSelects types of data that FlightPath should permanently remove after they have been flagged for deletion. Normally deleted items remain in the database so they can potentially be recovered. In most production environments, these options should remain unchecked.
