Advisor Overview#

When you log in to FlightPath as an advisor, you will see the advisor dashboard. The dashboard provides an overview of your advising activity and gives you quick access to students and other frequently used features.

Advisor Dashboard#

The dashboard may include several types of information, depending on how FlightPath is configured at your institution.

Common areas include:

Your upcoming appointments
Students you advise
Advising activity and progress
Announcements
Student alerts and other notifications
Other information provided by your institution

The navigation on the left side of the screen provides access to the main areas of FlightPath.

Appointments

Appointments#

FlightPath can provide advisors with a calendar for viewing and managing advising appointments.

The availability of appointment features depends on your institution’s configuration.

Viewing Your Appointments#

Select Appointments from the FlightPath navigation to open your appointment calendar.

The calendar provides an overview of your scheduled meetings with students. You can navigate between dates and view appointments for a particular day.

The Advisor calendar displays scheduled advising appointments.

Finding Students

Finding Students#

FlightPath provides several ways to locate and load students. Advisors can search for an individual student or view a list of students assigned to them as advisees.

Searching for a Student#

Use the Search screen to locate a student by information such as their name or campus-wide ID (CWID).

By default, you can see the list of students assigned to you as advisees.

Student Profile

Student Profile#

The student profile brings together information about an individual student’s academic progress and advising activity.

After selecting a student, you can use the tabs across the top of the profile to access different types of information.

Engagements

Engagements#

The Engagements screen provides a history of interactions and activities involving the student.

Depending on your institution’s configuration, engagements can include sent and received text messages, emails, or logged phone conversations and meetings.

It is a place where future advisors or other staff can review a complete history of communications with the student.

Degree Plan & Advising

Degree Plan & Advising#

The degree plan provides a detailed view of a student’s progress toward completing their degree. This is also where the majority of advising will take place, as the Degree tab is what permits the advisor to select courses and actually submit the advising session.

Open a student’s profile and select Degree to view the student’s progress.

The Degree view provides a detailed picture of the student's progress and requirements.

Comments

Comments#

The Comments screen allows authorized faculty and staff to record information about a student.

Comments can be useful for documenting advising conversations, recommendations, concerns, or other information that may be relevant to future interactions with the student.

When adding a comment, FlightPath allows you to specify who can see the comment: Faculty/Staff only, or “Anyone”, meaning the student can also see the comment. It does not mean the comment is public or visible to other students.

History

History#

The History tab displays a record of previous advising activity, comments, and files for the student. It may contain additional information as well, depending on your institution’s configuration.

The Advising History area provides a record of previous advising activity.

Advising Sessions#

Clicking an advising session row will display:

The date of an advising interaction
The advisor who worked with the student
The term associated with the advising activity
Courses advised

Review the advising history before meeting with a student when possible. This can help provide continuity between advising appointments and reduce the need for the student to repeat information that has already been discussed.

What If?: Exploring a Different Major

What If?: Exploring a Different Major#

The What If? feature allows advisors to explore how a student’s degree progress could change if the student pursued a different academic program.

This can be useful when a student is considering changing majors or exploring another degree option.

Opening What If#

Open the student’s profile and select What If? Next, select one (or more) degrees and click “Try it Out”.

The What If screen lets you explore the student's progress under another academic program.
